He served in the Staffordshire Regiment rom '59 for about 10 years before retiring to work for ICI in China. Hi my name is John Sawyer and my father Pte Arthur SAWYER,2nd Battilion,B Company ,SOUTH STAFFORDSHIRES served during WORLD WAR II more or less from 1939 to 1945, he was one of the lucky men that came home from that dreadful BATTLE of ARNHEM in 1944. However its only recentley that i decided to do my own research on my DAD and i do have his MEDALS etc,etc inside a display case, i with my eldest son [ his first grandson] payed a visit to the REGIMENT museum at WHITTINGTON on TUESDAY of this week [ 12th ] and spoke with STAFFS REGIMENTAL ASSOC sec Mr Richmond Leason and the museum curator Danielle Pritchard, where Ms/Miss/Mrs Pritchard and Mr Leason did take a number of photographs with my eldest Richard and the display case of my DADS photo and medals. I am still continuing to research my DADS record during the war, but Mr Leason did say that you have meetings at regular times and visit R.A.F. Shawbury and the HORSA glider EXHIBIT. You have my e-mail but my address is FLAT 5, RUNNYMEDE GARDENS,CROFT ROAD,NUNEATON. WARKS.CV1O 7DP. my home telephone no is 02477 678511 and my mobile is 0785 4403873. Oh by the way my DAD was born in LICHFIELD but after the war he spent the rest of his life in BATH,SOMERSET because thats where my MOTHER came from and my sister and i were born, sadly my DAD passed away in 1993 and my MOTHER in 2000. I would sincerely like a visit to SHAWBURY at some time in the future if and when you do arrange it. Yours Sincerely JOHN SAWYER.
Gaz Pearce and Azda Price. Now there's a couple of names i remember.... lol
Although I have no connection with the Staffs I feel an ifinity with the regiment because my Grandad Gunner Smith 5054616 served with the North Staffs during the war.
He was proud to have served with the Regiment.
I was RAPC attached to 1 Staffords from 1966 to 1969 and I am trying to trace Bill Snaith who was my best man in 1970. If anyone can provide any news of Bill I would be very grateful.
